CENTRAL CLINICAL LABORATORY

The Central Clinical Laboratory at Dr. Vasantrao Pawar Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre is known for offering excellent patient care. In the medical field and a hospital setting, laboratory investigations and the diagnosis and treatment of the patient go hand in hand.  The laboratory investigations form a backbone in confirming the diagnosis of the disease, predicting the prognosis of the patient, optimizing the treatment plan, and ensuring smooth monitoring of the patient and disease progression.

Established in the early 1990’s, the Central Clinical Laboratory has served the same function for Dr. Vasantrao Pawar Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre with sections like Hematology, Clinical Pathology, Biochemistry and Microbiology.

The Central Clinical Laboratory is a place of activity and works round the clock.

 

Hematology and Clinical Pathology Department:

The Hematology Department is equipped with automated analyzers and state of the art machines for all the investigations, From the routine investigations like CBC to coagulation studies to cytopathological investigations like fluid analysis and FNACs, the CCL serves as a centre for all the investigations.

 

Biochemistry Department:

The Biochemistry Department has Clinical Biochemistry and Endocrinology.

Biochemistry section is well equipped with automated analyzers and state of the art machines for all the investigations, apart from routine biochemistry investigations like blood glucose, LFTS, RFTS, lipid profile, cardiac profile, serum electrolytes, inflammatory markers etc which are done regularly, special tests like tumor markers, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, HbA1c, and endocrinology investigation like fertility tests, thyroid profile  etc are also carried out.

 

Microbiology Department:

The Microbiology Department has Bacteriology, Mycobacteriology, Viral Serology, Bacterial Serology and Immunology and Diagnostic Molecular Laboratory. The tests performed are routine culture and sensitivity of blood, urine, pus and body fluids etc. Apart from this we also have RTPCR equipment and a fully functional Diagnostic Molecular Laboratory.

The Central Clinical Laboratory along with collaboration of other departments like medicine undertakes campaign drives like hemoglobin investigations and Blood glucose level monitoring.

Even in the tough times of the worldwide pandemic of Corona virus, the Central Clinical Laboratory has stepped up by starting new investigations like IL-6, Ferritin, which along with other markers like D-dimer, LDH and CRP plays an important role in diagnosing the cytokine storm in the patient of Covid 19.
