Summer Internship Programme (SIP) 2025 – Final Report

Overview:

The Summer Internship Programme (SIP) 2025 was successfully initiated on 19th May 2025 at Dr. VPMCH&RC, Nashik. This initiative, a part of the MUHS Summer Internship Programme conducted across Maharashtra, was held at our institute for the first time this year.

The SIP aims to bridge academic learning with practical exposure and was structured under two key goals:

  1. Health Education – Led by Dr. Balaji Almale (Professor & Head, Dept. of Community Medicine) – 10 students
  2. Research Methodology – Led by Dr. Ashok Vankudre (Professor, Dept. of Community Medicine) – 5 students

Sessions were conducted by esteemed faculty members, designed to promote analytical thinking, practical skills, and active student engagement.

Academic Schedule:

A comprehensive and well-balanced timetable was followed over the two-week duration. Each day of the internship followed a structured format:

  • Yoga & Mindfulness Practice:
    Each day began with a short yoga session by Dr Satish Vaghmare (Professor in Dept. of Physiology) encouraging mindfulness and setting a positive tone for the day’s academic activities.
  • Structured Learning:
    The schedule consisted of:

    • Lectures on health education, IEC/BCC, and public health topics
    • Training on research methodology including study design, ethics, and data collection etc.
    • OPD visits for real situation based experiences
    • Interactive assignments, group activities including tree plantation, and student-led presentations

Inauguration Ceremony Highlights (21st May 2025):

The formal inauguration ceremony was held on 21st May 2025, marking the official beginning of the programme:

  • Welcoming with Saplings: Chief guests and dignitaries were welcomed with saplings, symbolizing growth, sustainability, and lifelong learning.
  • Lamp Lighting & Saraswati Vandana: The ceremony commenced with traditional lamp lighting and Saraswati Vandana recited by Ms. Pooja Erandole (3rd Year MBBS), invoking blessings from the Goddess of Wisdom.
  • Felicitation of Interns: Dean Dr. Sudhir Bhamre felicitated all participating interns with roses, marking the symbolic start of their journey.
  • Orientation by Nodal Officer & Vertical Heads:
    Tanuja Brahmankar introduced the programme and highlighted its importance. Vertical heads elaborated on the structure, goals, and expected outcomes.
  • Dean’s Address: Dean Dr. Bhamre inspired the students with a motivating address, emphasizing the significance of this unique academic opportunity.
  • Vote of Thanks: The event was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shital Patil (Associate Professor).

Valedictory Function (2nd June 2025):

The programme concluded with a valedictory ceremony filled with reflection, appreciation, and encouragement:

  • Individual Evaluation:
    Each student was individually evaluated by the Nodal Officer and respective Vertical Heads based on their participation, presentations, and involvement throughout the internship.
  • Feedback Collection:
    Feedback was gathered from interns on various aspects of the programme including content, teaching, coordination, and overall experience.
  • MUHS Logo Caps Distribution:
    Each student received a cap with the MUHS logo as a token of appreciation and a keepsake of their successful completion.
  • Final Group Photo:
    A final group photograph was taken featuring all interns, faculty members, and organizers, symbolizing the unity and success of the internship programme.

Conclusion:

The Summer Internship Programme 2025 at Dr. VPMCH&RC was an inspiring blend of learning, practice, wellness, and teamwork. It provided a solid foundation in health education and research methodology and offered students a practical understanding of public health systems and academic research.

We look forward to sustaining and expanding this initiative in the years to come, continually nurturing the future health professionals of India.
