Department of Surgery of Dr. Vasantrao Pawar Medical College, Hospital and Research center was established in year 1989.
With 120 Undergraduate Students (UG) coming in every year, we conduct General Surgery lectures (382 hours), Tutorials and Seminars ( 140 hours) and bedside clinics (468 hrs.) for the UG students. We start surgical teaching as early as the third term through to the ninth term with view to lay a base for the development of good clinical acumen in the subject of General Surgery by the end of their MBBS Course. To evaluate their progress, we regularly conduct internal assessment exams and University examinations (as per the MUHS protocols).
We have 5 students joining the surgery residency every year. They are subjected to well-constructed, research based, immersive and interactive residency program, guided by seasoned faculties, in which their day starts with attending OPD, Ward rounds and hands on in OT in the first half and concludes with case presentation, seminars, Journal club and a intermittent integrated interdepartmental teaching in the second half. The surgery residents are trained by us to handle emergencies.
Committed to the society we carry out various programs such as the breast cancer awareness camp, Hernia diagnosis and operative camp, state level multi diagnostic camp held at Dhule and Aurangabad, Cancer screening camp to mention a few.
Our clinical postings are carved in a way to make learning clinical skills efficient and effortless. On Clinical Side we have been consistently catering to around 220 outdoor patients daily with around 20 admissions each day and operating 8 major and 18 minor cases daily giving our UG and PG students adequate exposure to clinical work.
Department conducts research activity in the form of clinical trials. Every resident is allotted with a research project to be completed during his tenure. It is mandatory for every resident to present their research project at, at least the state conference.
