Physiology is one of the very important building blocks in MBBS program. Department focuses on developing appropriate acumen towards preparation of Ist MBBS students to become competent Indian medical graduate. Department of Physiology conducts regular undergraduate teaching as per the new CBME curriculum following the NMC/MCI & MUHS guidelines. Total 495 hours of well-planned and structured UG teaching of first year MBBS students is conducted. It includes didactic lectures, lecture cum demonstrations, Self – directed learning, seminars, small group discussions, practical’s, DOAP sessions, tutorials, Computer simulated teaching, Problem based learning etc. It also includes activities such as field visits, sports & extra-curricular activities. To develop the attitude domain Bioethics, Development of Humanities and AETCOM sessions are also organized. We focus on experiential learning and small group teaching. E-learning in the form of Google classroom & live Zoom sessions were also included during the pandemic to continue un-interrupted imparting of knowledge. The entire department works as a team for student welfare and progress.

Department is also unique in introducing experiential learning through poster & model making competition from last 5 years. This learning by doing initiative in physiology was well appreciated by students with enthusiastic participation.

Faculty members are constantly motivated for professional development. We actively participate in workshops, CME &Conferences to keep ourselves updated. All 6 faculties are trained in medical education (Basic course in MET) and 4 faculties have completed Advance course in medical education (ACME). Our faculty are co-opt members of  MCI regional centre of MET at MUHS, and actively participate as resource  faculty in Revised Basic Course Workshop,  Curriculum Implementation Support Program , Basic & Advanced research methodology workshop, paper setting & moderation & newer methods of assessment workshop.

Research in basic sciences is conducted to improve understanding of physiological processes and to form the basis of evidence based research is developed. We have a total of 52 publications at our credit in various indexed national and international journals. We are also associated with various national and international journals as reviewers.

Various training programs in first aid & emergency care are conducted as a part of community outreach program by us.

Workshops are conducted by our department faculty in schools, addressing the adolescent school children to sensitize them with the physiological changes their body will undergo.

Yoga & nutrition sessions are also conducted from time to time at social and institutional level.

Clinical care is imparted by running Neurophysiology lab that helps in accurate diagnosis of patients & thus appropriate patient care is ensured.

We also participate in multi diagnostic camps organized by state government.
