The department of Orthopaedics was established in 1990. It is one of the largest tertiary centers in north Maharashtra with sub-specialty services like Arthroscopy, Arthroplasty, Paediatric Orthopaedics, Spine, Hand and complex Trauma. The department carries a huge social responsibility by performing maximum number of surgeries in social schemes (MPJAY: 2,314 cases in academic year 2018-19)
Orthopaedics is an allied subject under general surgery for undergraduates. We have a capacity of 120 undergraduates with lectures for VI, VIII and IX semester and clinical posting for V, VI, VIII and IX semesters. The schedule consists of 50 teaching hours for lectures, 50 teaching hours for tutorials and 180 teaching hours for clinical posting.
The department of Orthopaedics was training 5 MS and 1 Diploma in Orthopaedics post graduate students till 2018, which are now, converted to 6 MS Orthopaedics seats since 2019.
The internal assessments of post graduate residents are taken every 6 months which includes theory and practical examinations. As there are all sub specialities of orthopaedics, the residents get complete exposure of Joint replacements, Arthroscopy,spine,Paediatricorthopaedics and complex trauma which includes pelviacetabulur surgeries.
The undergraduate and post- graduate courses are recognized by MCI and affiliated to MUHS.
