Ophthalmology Department aims to impart knowledge, skills and attitude in students essential to make them competent ophthalmologists (PGs), sensitive to their community ophthalmic responsibilities (UGs).
Department nurtures undergraduate and postgraduate students with knowledge by means of didactic lectures, practicals, case discussions, E-resources, self-directed learning and hands on surgical training programs. Department promotes research activities among students and teachers.
Department caters OPD/IPD as well as diagnostic facilities. We also cater speciality clinics. Modern diagnostic tools like Fundus Fluorescein Angiography, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Perimetry, Non-Contact Tonometer (NCT), Applanation Tonometer and Anterior segment imaging are available. Our operation theatres are fully equipped with state of art microsurgical microscopes with teaching aid and non-contact viewing system for Retina surgery, Phacoemulsification, Vitrectomy, Keratoplasty, etc .With the help of our highly efficient Eye bank team and advanced infrastructure we perform enucleation, and in-situ corneal button removal. Our Eye bank has also been certified as Keratoplasty center. We also screen the preterm babies admitted in NICU in our hospital for Retinopathy of Prematurity.
The Department is committed to the society by community outreach programmes- District Blindness Control Programme and School Health Screening Programmes. We carry out free Surgical cataract camps and Diabetic retinopathy screening camps .
